how to prepare for your studio session

IMPORTANT NOTE : Please come into the studio with your hair and make-up done and ready to go. Applying them here will eat up your time in front of the camera and our goal is to spend as much time in front of it as possible.

The amount of effort you put in to prepare for the shoot will greatly reflect on the photos we can create!

And as always, everything listed below is just a guideline. If you’re looking for photos outside of the standard or just want your photo to have a different flavour, feel free to do/bring whatever you need to achieve them.

HAIR

  • Get it styled/cut/coloured the way you want it to look in your photos AT LEAST 3 DAYS before the shoot so we can easily reschedule if there are any emergencies.

  • Style your hair as if you're having a "good hair day". We want it to look as natural as possible.

MAKE-UP

  • Whether you’re getting your make-up professionally done or you’re doing it yourself, it’s very important that you have the right style for the photos you’d like. Headshots work better with a more natural look whereas editorial/commercial photos would need a bit more.

  • Bring powder to get rid of shine.

  • Don’t forget to bring pawpaw or lip balm at the very least. Make sure to bring different coloured lip sticks for options.

  • Please bring your make-up kit for touch ups and style changes.

FACE

  • Make sure to have a good, long sleep the night before. We don't want your eye bags to look heavier than my camera.

  • Tidy up those brows, my friend. These bad boys can make or break a photo, surprisingly!

  • Nose hair. That's all.

  • Facial Hair is totally up to you - just make sure it's tidy. Bring your shaving kit if you want to shave in between looks.

  • Did your old friend from middle school decide to show up? Don't worry! My retouching rule is if it won't be there in the next 2 weeks/permanently, it's gone.

CLOTHES

  • Always bring complete outfits and bring a range of styles - from simple and casual to stylish and formal! The more options, the better.

  • Choose colours that will complement your skin tone, eye colour, and hair.

  • A top with an interesting neckline looks really nice in headshots. Time to sport that turtleneck you've been dying to use! Bring something with a collar.

  • Layering and textured fabrics can add a different flavour to your headshot. Bring a jacket or something to put over your plain top to spice things up!

  • TRY it on and look at yourself in front of the mirror. Just because it's in your wardrobe doesn't mean it fits perfectly. An oversized/super tight garment will look very unflattering in photos.

SHOES / ACCESSORIES

  • Jewellery is highly dependent on the kind of photos you’re after. For actors, I usually advise against wearing jewellery that will take the attention away from your face. If you MUST, the simpler the better.

  • If you want full body portraits, make sure to bring the right shoes.

after the session

RETOUCHING

  • If it’s not staying, it’s going!

  • You shouldn’t be punished for getting an unwelcomed pimple or a cat’s scratch the night before your shoot! I’m all for transparency so if there’s anything else that you’d like to be edited out, please let me know.

TURNAROUND TIME

  • You’ll receive a link for an online gallery containing all usable images from your shoot for you to choose from shortly after your session. (NOTE: You do not get a copy of unretouched photos)

  • Once you’ve confirmed your choices, you should get your images retouched and ready to go within 14 days.
